edit: thanks to Pabuuu4 I was a bit misinformed and its actually called zokusha or shakotan.

Did you know it is not called Bosozoku?

Bosozoku translates to something like motorcycle gang, and the proper term for cars is Zokusha or Shakotan.

They really hate it if you use Bosozoku for the cars.

For some reason the term Bosozoku is better known.

The problem is that if you Google Bosozoku you get a ton of results and if you Google any other proper term for it you get jack squat

Bosozuku is used because the guys that ride the bikes were originally the ones who started shakotan. IIRC it was sometime in the 70's or 80's, and they were supposed to look like the racing cars at the time. These days, you might still find some guys in their 50's and 60's at car meets with shakotan cars who were bozosuku back then
